I wrote this piece for my piano student as a supplement to her mid-elementary level music. I incorporated chord progressions and notes that she had learned in the key of G major. I wanted to provide her with beautiful repertoire that, while challenging, was within her range of difficulty. This is about a nature park in Chicago. There are trails that surround a large hill covered in wildflowers with butterflies, swallows, and bunnies. It is the perfect place to fly kites, have a picnic, and enjoy a sunny day.
Performance Notes:
While your right hand has a firmer, hammer-like touch, think of your left hand fingers as small paintbrushes to keep the chords from overpowering the melody. As the notes rise, gradually dig into the keys more. As the notes fall, lighten the touch.
I orchestrated this theme to become the second movement of Symphonina No. 2.
